The purpose of the lecture in week one for New Communication
Technologies was more or less a general introductory into the course and what
was to be expected throughout the extent of semester two. We discussed the
upcoming assessments to which must be completed during semester two and the
various ways that we as students can tackle these assessments in order to meet
the required expectations. The two main questions raised during the lecture
regarding this course included such things as its very purpose and what
technology is. There was a brief overview into the history of technology and
how it has developed over the years to become what it is today.

‘Questions about the
usefulness of microcomputers in 1980's Australia’ explores the opinions,
attitudes, experimentations and confusion surrounding the introduction of
microcomputers in comparison to the technology that is in today's society
common place. The article examines the many questions raised by the consumer during
the 80's in relation to the usefulness of microcomputers and the benefits that
they would bring to us and society in the coming future. Discussed throughout
the article, are the significant developments of software and other related
aspects of microcomputers that occurred throughout the decade, that in turn, effectively shifted the public’s judgement of computers and allowed for them to
be an important aspect of the new age way of living.
